To provide for the future of the ranch and to quickly improve the genetics of deer in the field, Santa Margarita began the Scientific Breeding Program in 2003. The progress has moved very quickly. We now have 24 individual pens built that are interconnected by a central passage used to bring deer in and out. These pens are connected to an extensive treatment facility designed for everything from antibiotics to Artificial Inseminations. Between 250-300 deer are in the pens now and we are looking forward to another busy year in 2008. Some of these deer are turned out into the pasture to boost the genetics of the ranch, but most stay in the breeding program or are sold. Does

The does have always been a high priority at Santa Margarita.  All our deer come from 200 class genetics and our does come from some of the best of all.  Many of our does come from Dugger's Flaco and Bodacious lines.


Fawns

The fawns are the future of Santa Margarita.  Due to the care and time we devote to the breeding operation, these fawns are very calm and many will eat from the hand which makes them easy to work with.  We're looking forward to seeing them mature as the breeders of tomorrow.
